Newlands at a glance

Steeped in history, dating back to the arrival of Willem van der Stel in the
1700's, who named it De Nieuwe Land, the leafy, upmarket Suburb of Newlands
is world renowned as the home to SA Rugby and Cricket, and to the
picturesque Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens.

Nestled on the slopes of Table Mountain, Newlands is conveniently located to
provide a completely integrated lifestyle for school, work, recreation,
leisure, and shopping.

Newlands comprises the quaint Newlands Village, with its beautiful
boutiques, deli's and bakeries; Hiddingh; as well as Fernwood, which is the
distinctive southern half bordering the suburb of Bishopscourt.

Walk, run or cycle along the Liesbeek River from Kirstenbosch Gardens to the
historic Josephine Mill, an absolute treat for the senses.   Walk the kids
to school whether it be to Herschel, Grove, SACS (the oldest school in the
country), Western Province Prep, Westerford, San Souci, Barkly House and so
many more.  UCT is just 5 minutes away too!   Whether work is in Cape Town,
CBD or North or South you are on the major roadways to get you there ahead
of the rat-race.  Collect your groceries on your way home from work, with
easy access to Dean Street Arcade, Cavendish Square and Montclare Place.
Eating out is a real spoil with a huge variety of eateries and cuisines,
from old establishments like Forries and Barristers, to Italian from Mama
Roma, sushi from the Sushi Box, or take the kids to Cape Town's first ever
Spur, Golden Spur on Newlands Main Road, to name but a few.

Easy peasy weekends in the neighbourhood - breakfast at the Gardener's
Cottage, Montebello's Design Centre or Moyo at Kirstenbosch.   What about a
lazy picnic in Kirstenbosch gardens, or a leisurely hike on one of the many
mountain trails from Newlands Forest?
It's child's play at the Liesbeek River Garden, then off to The Creamery or
Le Delizie Chocolatier for ice-cream and treats.
The Vineyard Hotel, with its magical gardens set against the back-drop of
the mountain is an absolute treat for High Tea, Myoga's tasting menu, or a
relaxing Thai massage at Angsana Spa.    And then there are also Summer
concerts, open air-movies, the Kirstenbosch market, if that is not enough.
The Church of the Good Shepherd, St Andrews, and Mountain View, to name a
few, are open for worship on Sundays.

Everyone knows about the water and the beer in Newlands!  Water in the form
of rain as Newlands has the highest rainfall in the Cape, and in the form of
natural Spring Water, which flows abundantly from the Table Mountain Spring.
You can collect this high quality, water at various access point for home
use.   And this same spring water is used to make beer as well!   Newlands
is also the home of beer brewing in the Cape which dates to the 1650's, with
the original home of Ohlsson's Breweries still located next to the rugby
grounds.    Newlands Brewery is situated in the heart of Newlands and offers
an amazing beer experience in the form of guided tours to learn about the
200-year-old tradition of beer making and to sample some of South Africa's
finest, freshest beers.

With so much on offer it's no wonder that the Suburb of Newlands is rated in
the top 100 out of 5984 suburbs in SA!
