PROPERTY TRANSFERS ARE GOING DIGITAL

“The long-anticipated Electronic Deeds Registration System (eDRS) project is finally taking shape. The firms selected to participate in the eDRS BETA/Pilot training have been contacted by the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development (DALRRD) to initiate the registration process and begin their training sessions. The eDRS system is set to revolutionize property registration in South Africa by digitizing the entire process—covering preparation, lodgement, registration, execution, and storage of deeds and documents. Thus, a conveyancer need no longer be in a particular province to lodge a deed or document. This aspect alone will reduce costs and expedite the transfer process.  This innovative system aims to enhance security, reduce turnaround times, and combat corruption within the registration process. It will facilitate various electronic processes, including electronic lodgement of deeds transactions, automated distribution to examination officials, electronic examination and registration, as well as electronic delivery, messaging, and payments. This milestone marks a significant step forward in simplifying and streamlining property transfers across the Western Cape and South Africa as a whole. We look forward to the official large-scale rollout of eDRS and are confident that the pilot program will prove to be a resounding success.”
